Here’s an excerpt from my current nutrition column about food aphrodisiacs for Healthy You Now titled Eat to Love: 7 Foods to Get You in the Mood.

“Whether Valentine’s Day ended too soon or not soon enough, eating for pleasure is always in season. You can please your sweetie anytime with great foods that help put you in the mood.

Food aphrodisiacs get their power from nutrients and naturally-occurring chemicals that create sexual arousal. Foods that mimic sexual organs can be a turn-on, too. Scientific studies on natural aphrodisiacs are few, but using cultural wisdom as a guide, here are seven tasty, sensual foods that keep the juices flowing.

Avocados
In some cultures, pairs of avocados hanging from a tree are said to resemble male testicles, while avocados cut in half are thought to look like female vulvas. It’s no wonder that avocados are considered a sensuous fruit. Try some in creamy guacamole or chopped on top of toasted French bread drizzled with olive oil.”

Read more here about the sensual properties of pumpkin, basil and others. Bon Appetit!

But don’t despair. Maybe its just time to revise your resolution. Instead of trying to stick to a diet, how about resolving to eat more, not less?”

I’m excited to introduce you to Healthy You Now, a new web site that I’m the nutrition expert for, which launched today. I’ll be writing a column every two weeks sharing tips and strategies to eat more healthy and delicious foods everyday.

Healthy You Now is all about supporting women on their journey to achieve an optimal lifestyle of health and wellness. As the site says, “Healthy You Now shifts the conversation from dieting and weight to one that explores all aspects of living a healthy life, including awareness and resources, nutrition and fitness, and overall holistic health.” I’m honored to be working with an amazing team of experts in these areas.

The site was started by Tonya Lewis Lee, spokesperson for the national A Healthy Baby Begins With You infant mortality awareness campaign. Tonya is also an award-winning filmmaker and author, whose work includes the popular children’s book Please Baby Please, which she wrote with her husband, director Spike Lee. (Tonya also recently became a vegan. Congratulations!)

So, check out Healthy You Now, and join us on this exciting new venture into health and wellness.
